Community MD Anderson Physicians

Navigators: With you from the start

We strive to help every patient navigate the cancer journey. It starts when you meet our oncologists and nurse navigators, Diana and Laurie. They act as an advocate and guide for newly diagnosed cancer patients, making sure all your questions are answered and that you get all the information you need to make informed choices about your treatment plan.

Meet the Oncology Navigators

The physicians and navigators are joined by nurse practitioner Denise Davis, NP. Denise's area of expertise includes helping patients manage pain along with our social worker, chaplain and behavioral health staff.

Treatment Options

According to the National Cancer Institute, there are more than 100 different types of cancer. At Community MD Anderson Cancer Center - Kokomo, we treat all types of adult cancer including head and neck, breast, colorectal and prostate cancer. Our physicians and clinical staff are experts in treating cancer with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.

Medical Oncology

All of our oncology nurses are OCN certified and have vast experience delivering medical oncology treatments (chemotherapy) in our infusion area. Our physicians are also hematologists who treat non-cancerous blood disorders with infusion services such as transfusions or antibiotic therapy.

Radiation Oncology

Some cancer treatments call for radiation therapy. Under the direction of Dr. Samantha Buszek, the radiation oncology staff includes a radiation therapy nurse, physicist, dosimetrist and several radiation therapists. Advanced multi-modality radiation treatments include:

  • External beam radiation therapy aims high-energy rays at the cancer and the immediate surrounding areas to destroy the main tumor and any nearby cancer cells.

  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a type of 3-dimensional radiation therapy in which beams of radiation of different intensities are aimed at the tumor from many angles using information from a 4-D CT scan. This treatment reduces the damage to healthy tissue near the tumor.

  • Image guided radiation therapy is an advanced imaging technology allows for precise treatment delivery through its capability to accurately focus the radiation on the target, making the radiation therapy more accurate, causing less damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.

The cancer center works closely with Community Howard imaging services to coordinate mammograms and other imaging services for our patients.
