Take the Next Step for Your Lung Health

Our lungs are our lifelines. They're vital to every breath we take. And we want to protect them all our lives. So it’s helpful to take our online Lung Health Risk Assessment (HRA) if you think you have a lung cancer risk, for early detection and better health. Community Health Network has the care and information you need for lung cancer screenings.

Should I Be Screened for Lung Cancer?

If you think you need a lung cancer screening, the answer might be yes. Lung cancer is the second most common cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Factors such as family history, age, smoking and respiratory conditions all play a role in your lung cancer risk. Take this quick online assessment to see if you should be screened.

What’s Involved in Lung Screenings?

Community Health Network provides ultra low-dose computed tomography (CT scan) to find abnormalities and nodules. During a CT scan, lung tissue is viewed in high resolution with less radiation — a safe, quick and painless procedure. A CT scan doesn’t involve needles, and is important for lung health and cancer prevention.

The scan only takes about a minute, and is easy to navigate with the help of Community Health Network’s team of CT technologists. A CT scan may find nodules, which require more testing to see if they’re cancerous or noncancerous. About 1 in 4 patients screened in Indiana has lung nodules — 96 percent aren’t cancer.

What if They Find Something?

At Community, we understand the fear that comes with your doctor finding a nodule or abnormality in a test. Our board-certified radiologists take a close look at your lungs using the most advanced, state-of-the-art digital technology. Results are sent to your referring physician for next steps, like a PET scan or biopsy. If you’re worried about testing and treatment, we provide support at our Central Indiana cancer care locations.

Where Do I Go for a Screening?

After our online assessment identifies a serious risk for lung cancer, it’s time to make an appointment for a screening. Remember to relax and take each step at a time. An order from your physician is needed to make that appointment. Call our Indianapolis Hospitals/Imaging Centers at 317-355-4680 or toll-free 877-298-8177 (M-F, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.); Community Hospital Anderson: 765-298-4223; and Community Howard Regional Health (Kokomo): 765-776-8413.
