Patients and visitors to Community Hospital East can find general information about the hospital below, including visiting hours, parking, dining options and various services. If you don't find what you're looking for, please call our general information line at 317-355-1411.
The Main Entrance (Ritter Avenue) is open from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors to campus who arrive after the main entrance is closed should use the new Emergency Department entrance, accessible from 16th Street.
General Visiting Hours
Visiting hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., limited to two (2) visitors at one time.
Visiting hours are designed for you to spend time with your loved ones, our patients, while ensuring that patients receive all the treatment, care and rest they need. Special circumstances may occur and visiting may be restricted, postponed or cancelled. Visiting time is dependent on patient condition and considerations for the care, privacy, dignity and safety of all patients. Visitors must be free of fever and contagious illness to prevent spreading illness to others. Children under 14 years old must have adult supervision (other than the patient) at all times.
Unit Visiting and After Hours
- Maternity Services: Limited to 2-3 visitors at bedside during labor and delivery. One support person 24 hours/day. Other visitors 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Special Care Nursery: Two persons at a time only as permitted by the mother. No visitors, including parents, during report or special procedures.
- ICU/PCU: No visiting between 7 to 8 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. during report.
- End of Life and Hospice patients: Staff will work with the family to make special allowances.
After Hours Visitation
- Most hospital entrances are locked from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Use Emergency Department doors during this time.
- Only one visitor may stay with each patient in room overnight. To protect privacy, no overnight guests will be permitted to stay with patients who are sharing a room with another patient.
- Overnight guests must be independent with their own care needs.
- Children under 18 years old are not allowed to stay overnight.
Note: Beginning 9/24/18, construction trailers will be moved to the front public parking lot, and fewer surface parking spaces will be available. Parking will continue to be available in the garage, and we have increased valet staff during this time. Thank you!
Visitor parking is free in the east parking lot and parking garage. The Emergency Department entrance is open 24/7 and parking may be accessed from 16th Street.
Valet parking is available free of charge and is available at the main entrance from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tips are not required or accepted.
An ATM is located just outside the cafeteria entrance.

Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are allowed except in patient treatment areas as their signal could interfere with medical equipment in use.
The hospital and the entire Community Hospital East campus are tobacco-free environments.
Smoking has been shown not only to compromise the health of those who smoke, but others who come into contact with the smoke. Therefore, in keeping with our mission to promote the health, wellness and comfort of our patients and employees, smoking is not permitted.

Bistro East offers diners locally sourced and produced food and beverage choices. Diners can choose from weekly rotating items as well as grab-n-go options.
The cafeteria is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Gourmet coffees, teas, other beverages and a variety of pastries can be found at Java City in the lobby.

Community Health Network libraries provide access to health information research services for patients and their families. A medical librarian's expertise is available during staffed hours.
Community Hospital East is the main library location and is staffed by librarians Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have a specific information request, call the CHE Library at 317-355-3600. The library is located in Building 3, lower level.
Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Library materials may not be checked out by patients or family members.
Ongoing volunteer opportunities are available at Community Hospital East, including positions in the medical units, along with clerical positions and customer service assistance for patients and visitors.
