For release on December 15, 2022

New season of ‘Tell Us Where It Hurts’ tells the story of one man’s struggle with substance use and his path to recovery

Indianapolis—Community Health Network is using the latest season of its podcast, ‘Tell Us Where It Hurts,’ to shed light on the opioid crisis.

Centering on one man’s struggle with substance use and his path to recovery, the podcast aims to help listeners understand the pitfalls of addiction and resources available. ‘Kelly,’ as he is identified, gives a candid look at his own lifelong battle with drug and alcohol use, which began in his adolescence. Through the eight-episode season, he details some of his darkest moments, and the people and circumstances that led him to recovery.

In the introductory episode to season three of ‘Tell Us Where It Hurts,’ titled ‘The Beginning: Kelly’s story,’ Kelly shares details about his sometimes-troubled upbringing in Terre Haute, Indiana and why his recovery led him to Indianapolis.

“Getting up in the morning and sometimes stepping over my father who was passed out on the kitchen floor. That was normal…”

More than three million citizens in the United States have or currently struggle with opioid use disorder. In 2021, about 75% of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. were due to opioid misuse.

This is the third season of the podcast, which focuses on issues affecting health outcomes. Hosted by Community Health Network Director of Corporate Communications and former television journalist Kris Kirschner and produced by marketing agency MKR, the podcast features community leaders, and health experts who discuss timely issues that impact the health of central Indiana residents and communities.

“If I can get through to anybody, even one person, then it’s worth it. That’s what it’s about.”
