Community Howard Regional Health is pleased to announce it has added a second 3D mammography unit at the Community Howard Women’s Center.
A Hologic 3Dimenions mammography unit was installed to help meet the demand for mammograms. The addition of the second 3D unit will allow the Women’s Center to add additional screening appointments each day.
“A part of our mission is to make it simple for the local community to receive exceptional care and access to appointments plays a big part of that,” said Jamie Phillippe, Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive for Community Howard. “This investment to bring a second 3D mammography unit to Kokomo will create more opportunities for women to receive the care that they need.”
A mammogram is a safe, low-dose x-ray of the inside of the breasts, which can show changes too small to be felt by touch. With the Women’s Center’s 3D mammography, a computer produces a 3D image of the breast tissue in one millimeter slices, helping the radiologist see through the breast tissue more clearly.
Dr. Annette Moore, a medical oncologist with Community Physician Network MD Anderson Cancer in Kokomo said average risk women should begin having yearly screening mammograms at age 40.
“Regular mammograms are the best defense at catching breast abnormalities early on, which leads to more successful treatment,” said Moore.
Patients can schedule a mammogram at the Women’s Center online through MyChart or by calling 765-776-5800. Walk-ins are also available.
