Fishers, IN---Community Home Health, part of Community Health Network, is seeking volunteers to serve Madison County hospice patients. A five-session training sequence will be held September 13, 20 and 27, and October 4 and 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Central Wesleyan Fellowship Hall, 2209 Main St., Elwood.
Hospice patient contact volunteers must be 18 or older, and will provide comfort or companionship to terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteers do not provide hands-on care, but may read, listen to stories, watch TV, or just spend meaningful time with patients and families. Volunteers generally commit to spending two to four hours weekly with the patient, depending on the need and request.
No experience is necessary, but the training classes are mandatory, and will provide education and support.

Hospice is appropriate when treatments are no longer effective in curing a patient’s disease and aims to provide relief from physical and emotional pain. Hospice affirms life and assists the patient and family with life-closure activities, spending remaining days in comfort and with dignity.
