Outpatient program meeting

Outpatient Programs at Community Fairbanks

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) at Community Fairbanks Recovery Center are designed for individuals who need substance use disorder treatment services while living at home or in one of our Recovery Housing apartments. Outpatient care allows an individual to incorporate treatment into life while still attending school, maintaining employment or staying connected to family.

Outpatient Addiction Medicine

Community Fairbanks offers a complete outpatient treatment programs, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services for patients who require ongoing medication. Individuals will receive support and prescription guidance from our staff of doctors and nurses. Because research shows that medication is most effective when combined with counseling, we require involvement in programming if receiving medication through our physicians.

Medication-assisted Treatment (MAT)

The medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program uses the following medication:

  • Suboxone, which contains buprenorphine and naloxone, to help patients achieve recovery from opioid use disorders.
  • Vivitrol, a non-addictive once-a-month injection of naltrexone, for treatment of opioid use disorders in patients who have not used opioids for 7 to 14 days.
Level 1 Therapy

Level 1 outpatient therapy groups meet one hour weekly for 12 weeks. Frequency and duration may be adjusted to meet individual needs. The group’s focus is substance use disorder treatment and associated issues that cause moderate impairment in the individual’s life. Treatment goals will address lifestyle, attitudinal and behavioral issues that are interfering with functioning or recovery. This program is based on the Patient Placement Criteria for the treatment of substance disorders by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Group therapy treatment programs are available for adults and adolescents.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Requiring group therapy several days or evenings per week, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides flexibility and structure to patients. Education is offered to individuals and their families through special weekly family programming. Individuals are expected to participate in an outside support group, and special groups are available for chronic relapse patients.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

For medically stable individuals who live in a supportive environment and have access to reliable transportation, the partial hospitalization program (PHP) is comparable to inpatient care, but allows a patient to return home nightly. The individual goes through intense treatment during the day, and involvement in outside support groups is emphasized.

Women's Trauma Program

This programming addresses the specific needs of women suffering from co-occurring trauma and substance-use disorder. Evidence-based best practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety and yoga.
