Executive Director of Marketing, Communications and Strategic Engagement, Community Health Network Foundation

Ryan joined Community Health Network Foundation in 2008 and proudly serves as the organization’s executive director of marketing. He leads the development and execution of strategic marketing plans that support key fundraising and stewardship activities, while also building the organization’s fundraising brand.

He was born at Community Hospital Anderson and was raised in Lapel, Indiana. Early in his life, his parents nurtured his interest in communication and encouraged him to use his talents to serve others. He continues to appreciate that encouragement, and uses his skills to advance Community’s mission to improve the health and wellness of the Central Indiana communities we serve.

Ryan has more than 20 years of marketing, communications, media relations, production and business development experience. Before coming to Community, he served as a director of market development and interactive media for Grow Indiana Media Ventures, the parent company of the Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick brand of statewide multi-media business news products. Prior to that, he was a marketing director at Business Furniture Corporation and served as director of media relations and marketing at the 500 Festival, a world-renowned nonprofit organization that produces the events and celebrations surrounding the Indianapolis 500 Race.

Ryan is a Butler University graduate and holds a degree in journalism, public relations and marketing. In college, he completed a Pulliam Fellowship at The Indianapolis Star. He has been nominated for two Emmy’s, was a two-time finalist for Junior Achievement of Central Indiana’s Best and Brightest awards and won a Telly award for local broadcast advertising.

He is a board member at Gennesaret Free Clinics and has served the Indianapolis community by volunteering for various not-for-profits, including Heartland Film Festival, Habitat for Humanity, Damien Center and the Phoenix Theatre. Ryan is married to Shayne Small, MD, an internal medicine hospitalist.
