Community Health Network launches AI-powered weapon detecting system for enhanced security

For release on November 14, 2023

INDIANAPOLIS—Community Health Network is proud to announce the launch of an innovative AI-powered weapon detection system at key hospital locations, revolutionizing security measures for the safety and well-being of employees, patients and visitors.

These cutting-edge AI (Artificial Intelligence) solutions have been designed to prioritize the patient and visitor experience, ensuring a seamless and non-invasive security process. Patients and visitors can simply walk through the detectors at their normal pace. When a potential weapon is detected, the system discreetly alerts security personnel, pinpointing the exact location of the risk item on the individual. This advanced technology ensures a response that is both rapid and appropriate, making the process up to 10 times faster than traditional metal detectors, with no need for individuals to empty their pockets or remove belts. Similar technology is used at Madison Square Garden, Rupp Arena, Radio City Music Hall, and other high-profile venues. This innovation is safe for pregnant women and those with medical devices.

“Community is committed to the safety of all who work at and visit our sites of care,” said Kevin Mahan, Vice President of Security and Safety for Community Health Network. “This innovative approach to security provides the highest level of safety quickly and seamlessly, keeping the focus on the care of our patients.”

The new technology builds upon the existing security measures at Community facilities, which include enhancing security presence, implementing visitor management, deploying additional security cameras, adding a police department, installing more panic alarms, providing staff de-escalation and active shooter training, and improving our emergency management alert systems.
