Nutritional Wellness, Cooking for Wellness
Jodi Smith, medical nutritionist

Jodi Smith, medical nutritionistJodi Smith has been working in the field of nutrition for more than 40 years and has been teaching nutrition and cooking classes with Cancer Support Community Central Indiana for more than 20 years. She has led classes for the survivorship partnership between Community Health Network and Cancer Support Community since its start in 2019.

“I love encouraging people to use their diet as a tool in their cancer journey. In survivorship, good nutrition gives us an edge during treatment and it can be lifegiving."

Scanxiety and Cancer - What, Why and How to Help
Kyle Stepler, LMHC

Kyle Stepler, LMHCKyle Stepler, LMHC has been a licensed mental health therapist for Community Behavioral Health since 2019. Previously, he worked for Cancer Support Community Central Indiana for nearly four years as a hospital coordinator. He also has a small private practice in Greenwood. Kyle has advocated for oncology patients and their loved ones since his time at CSCCI through individual counseling and support groups, education classes, and survivorship programs. He encourages both patients and their caregivers to utilize these free services to feel empowered during their cancer journey and connect with others who are going through similar experiences.

Survivorship 101, Feeling Better with Massage
Dawn

Dawn, massage therapistDawn has been a massage therapist for more than 20 years and has done oncology work since 2008. She specializes in breast massage, lymphatic massage, tissue mobilization, scar work, and massage for those with head and neck cancers. Dawn has worked for the Community/Cancer Support Community partnership since 2016. She has a degree in social work and has been working with Alzheimer’s patients and their families for 30 years. Dawn also does life coaching with individuals who have gone through catastrophic illnesses.

Christine Bhe, tai chi instructorChristine began practicing tai chi (taiji) and qigong midlife with the goal of achieving pain-free functionality for daily life. Not only have tai chi and qigong helped her manage and recover from numerous chronic and acute medical conditions, but also helped her reach a level of health and fitness she never imagined possible. She is inspired by her students’ health and wellness progress and enjoys sharing the benefits of tai chi and qigong with anyone willing to try something new.

Christine is certified to teach tai chi by Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute and qigong by Master Wing Cheung of the Tai Chi, Qigong and Feng Shui Institute. Christine is a second-degree black belt tai chi student under Shifu Zhichao Ling, PhD, 7th generation Yang-style taiji master.

Allyson Broadstreet, yoga instructor

Allyson Broadstreet, yoga instructorAllyson is a clinical intern at Cancer Support Community Central Indiana. She graduated from Purdue University with her B.S. in Psychological Sciences in 2019, and is currently working towards her master's degree in clinical mental health counseling at Ball State University. In her free time, Allyson enjoys making candles and cuddling with her cat DJ Katled.

 

Cheryl Jenkins, cardio instructor

Cheryl JenkinsCheryl Jenkins has been teaching group fitness for all levels for 35 years and is a certified personal trainer. She has worked with cancer patients, Parkinson's patients and people with arthritis and other conditions to develop appropriate fitness routines for lifelong wellness. She has been certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, the Arthritis Foundation, Keiser cycling, TurboKick, Zumba, Silver Sneakers and Fit Tour.

 

Amy, yoga instructor

Amy, cancer survivorship yoga teacherAmy became a Certified Group Exercise Instructor in 2004 and began deepening her yoga practice in 2011. She has been an instructor with the CHN/CSC partnership since 2018 when she started teaching the Community Anderson class. Amy loves teaching yoga because it integrates the body, mind and spirit.

Fatimaeliza Gonzalez, yoga sleep recovery instructor

Fatimaeliza Gonzalez, yoga sleep recovery instructorFatimaeliza is a certified 500-hour yoga teacher, pre/post-natal yoga teacher, and certified in Reiki with over 580 hours worth of teaching experience. Fatimaeliza makes yoga accessible for different bodies, by offering a creative yoga flow with different modifications for all intensities. She has been teaching since 2018, and her intention is to help create community and empowerment for her students. When she isn’t teaching she is serving patients at Community Health Network as a genetic counseling assistant.

Support Groups

Anita, LCSW

Anita, cancer support group facilitatorAnita, a licensed clinical social worker, has worked for many different community agencies in Indianapolis since receiving her degree in 1994. She joined Cancer Support Community as a support group leader in 2011 and has been facilitating the patient support group in the partnership between CSC and Community Health Network since 2016.

“I feel it is such a privilege to be able to help patients in this life altering journey – to empower them and to offer connections and support. It has been a most rewarding job to witness hope emerge as member begin to trust on another, lean on each other as sojourners of this treacherous path.”

Brittany Hill, LMHC

Brittany Hill, art therapy group leaderBrittany Hill is a licensed mental health counselor specializing in art therapy. She has been facilitating the Open Art Studio group at Community Hospital South since 2017. Brittany finds art therapy to be beneficial to patients with cancer and their caregivers because there are so many opportunities for control and choice during a time when there seems to be nothing but uncertainty. The group setting also provides a sense of community and support, during which art making occurs as a means of emotional healing, creative expression and growth.

Katy Downey, LMHC, ATR-P

Katy Downey, cancer support group facilitatorKaty is a support group facilitator striving toward licenses in art therapy and mental health counseling. She has worked with Cancer Support Community Central Indiana since 2016 when she began as an intern. She has facilitated both the North and South Women’s Support groups in the CHN/CSC partnership since 2018.

Katy loves incorporating art processes into therapy, promoting healing through mindfulness and creative expression.
