Faculty and Resident Activities

Our residents and faculty are actively engaged in meaningful activities and initiatives outside of routine didactics and rotations in order to prepare residents to be at the forefront of the evolving role of the psychiatrist. These activities include committee engagement, scholarly work, QI/patient safety initiatives, advocacy, and continuous process improvement of our program through the annual APE process. Engagement and Advocacy
  • Engage with Indiana Psychiatric Society in building relationships and advocacy avenues
  • Volunteer and participate in annual American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness Walk
  • Mentor Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MUCOM) psychiatry student interest group as they explore and learn more about psychiatry
  • Facilitate Psych Sibs program as a way to foster community and team-building across the residency
  • Plan the annual residency retreat fostering team and positive working relationships
Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
  • Liaison for resident involvement with Behavioral Health product line and Network safety/quality initiatives
  • Coordinate root cause analyses, critical incident meetings, and internal death reviews to foster learning and exposure with resident involvement
  • Resident-led quality improvement projects
    • Addressing care gap concerns for individuals with substance use disorders presenting with high-utilization of Emergency Department visits
    • Exploring possible racial disparities with PRN medication usage in the inpatient psychiatric setting
    • Addressing high attrition rates of integrated recovery patients discharged from inpatient services
Scholarly Activity
  • Strategic planning for yearly scholarly activity and connecting of resources for faculty and staff
  • Participation in the annual Multidisciplinary Scholarly Activity Symposium in conjunction with University of Indianapolis
  • Assist with the program maintaining compliance with ACGME and Graduate Medical Education Scholarly Oversight Committee expectations
  • Multiple case studies and some original research in each academic year
Recruitment
  • Plan and identify recruitment events and outreach to prospective applicants
  • Maintain residency program social media, including Instagram profile
  • Collaborate and assist with all aspects of recruitment including pre-interview logistics, interview day coordination, and post-interview follow-up
  • Plan and identify graduation events
Annual Program Evaluation
  • As part of our annual program evaluation we have taken on additional initiatives to focus on the ongoing process improvement of our program. These are some of the ones we chose to highlight for the 2023-2024 academic year:
