Community Breast Care

Community Breast Care approved by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

Community Breast Care, the integrated breast health center at Community Health Network in Indianapolis, has been granted a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. This distinction is the first for a comprehensive health network in the state of Indiana. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. More about accreditation and what that means for patients

About Community Breast Care

Community Breast Care, an accredited breast health center, is the premier provider of breast care services in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. We are committed to the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease, and offer a comprehensive program that includes breast surgery, radiation and medical oncology services, physical therapy, and survivorship support. We aim to provide the highest standard of breast care possible to each individual patient in an environment that offers compassion, respect, integrity and hope, as well as in a timely manner through appointments that are made within 24 hours of a request.

Our physicians and staff are commited to providing optimal breast services that result in the best outcomes possible for all women with breast health concerns, including newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Our physicians are board-certified general surgeons—fellowship-trained in breast surgery—who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the breast.

Our breast screening/diagnostic centers are accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the FDA. We are a member of the National Alliance of Breast Care Organizations (NABCO) and the National Consortium of Breast Centers.

Response to recent USPSTF recommendations

Continue the conversation on this topic on our blog at breastcare.eCommunity.com

The physicians and staff of Community Breast Care, along with numerous well known and respected medical organizations, strongly oppose the recent recommendations of the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) to drastically restrict screening mammography. Multiple, well conducted clinical trials over the past 40 years have confirmed the benefit of mammography as the optimal tool for the early detection of breast cancer. Digital mammographic screening is safe, cost effective, and superior to older techniques in detecting breast cancer, especially in the 40 to 50 year age group.

Mammography screening saves lives. Adoption of the new guidelines would erase the progress of the past decades and return women to the days of large palpable cancers, mandatory mastectomies because of tumor size, and increased death. As advocates for our patients, we continue to recommend and encourage routine screening mammography for all women beginning at age 40.
