Mended Hearts Support Group
Mended Hearts is a national and community-based non-profit organization that has been offering the gift of hope to heart disease patients, their families and caregivers for more than 60 years. Our local chapter at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital is Mended Hearts of Indianapolis North Chapter 383.
Our support groups help people understand that there can be a rich, rewarding life after heart disease diagnosis. Members listen, share their experiences and volunteer to talk to other heart patients about what they may face including lifestyle changes, depression, recovery and treatment.
At Community Heart and Vascular we offer monthly gatherings at which heart patients and their caregivers can socialize, network and take advantage of educational opportunities—all provided free of charge. Meetings include a complimentary dinner. Educational topics range from the latest in valve replacement therapies to the benefits of incorporating exercise into a healthy lifestyle.
Through our visiting program, accredited visitors, with support of the hospital and Mended Hearts, serve heart patients by listening, sharing their experiences and empathizing with their anxieties and concerns. Our visitors see patients who have undergone valve replacement, ablation for atrial fibrillation, CABG for coronary heart disease, and more. Heart patients and families gain hope by meeting our members who have survived heart disease and gone on to lead healthy lives.
Inspire Online Support Community
Mended Hearts members can join Inspire, a new online community connecting hundreds of other people experiencing similar situations and emotions. The secure, online forum addresses topics such as heart disease and congenital heart defects, offering peace, laughter, hope, advice and comfort.
