Little things make a big difference for patients.
Ground Northeast serves the most seriously mentally ill Behavioral Health Services patients. Whenever one of the patients wanted ice for a cold drink or needed ice for an ice pack, a staff member would have to leave the unit and go to the cafeteria to get ice. An ice machine was needed not only for convenience but also for safety, said Cindy Suryantoro, a nurse who works in Ground Northeast.
So Suryantoro turned to the Foundation.
"The Foundation has always been very supportive of us, and it helps us get the things that we need. I request things that my staff says would be helpful for us to have," she said.
The Foundation purchased the ice machine.
"It saves the staff a whole lot of time," Suryantoro said. "Not having to leave the unit allows them to be with the patients more and that means better care for the patients."
