Community Hospital East Family Medicine Residency Program

Community Hospital East Family Medicine Residency Program

Our innovative residency program trains physicians to practice in the Patient Centered Medical Home. We use a unique longitudinal curriculum and offer primary care practice focused in the community setting. Our program is continually accredited by the ACGME and our graduates have outstanding success on their ABFM certification exams.

Update on 2023-2024 Interview Season

Dear applicants, we wanted to let you know that we will be conducting virtual interviews this year. While some aspects of our program cannot project through a screen, our overarching goal to prioritize equity for all those involved again is paramount. We hope you will find a wide selection of dates to fit your schedule.

Our virtual half-day interviews will consist of an information session, up to 6 individual interviews with faculty and current residents, and a short wrap up session. There will be meet and greet Zoom evening sessions weekly that give you a more casual time to ask questions and learn more about our program and city! Multiple residents will be available for conversation and questions. Most dates will be morning interviews, but we will reserve several dates for afternoon interviews. Our interviews will span from mid-October to the end of December (we may open a few dates in January based on schedules).

We plan to have an in-person “Second Look” event Saturday, February 17, 2024. This will be well after our rank list has been submitted, so this event is truly for those who would like to see us in person. Tentatively, we plan to open our large FMC clinic site, with tours of our office, and a chance to meet people in person! But more to come, and please feel no obligation to attend.

We wish you all peace and safety and look forward to reading your applications! Thank you for considering our program for your residency training!

Sincerely,
Cynthia Meneghini, MD

Meet Our Residents

Meet our residents and hear why they chose the exceptional training at Community East's Family Medicine Residency program.

Welcome!

Cynthia Meneghini, MD, Assistant directorThank you for your interest in the Community Hospital East Family Medicine Residency program at Community Health Network. Our mission is to train caring, compassionate family physicians who can practice in any place healthcare is delivered. Our patients’ medical care and outcomes are very often impacted by the social determinants of health, so we strive to train our residents to see beyond our clinic walls.

Our unique longitudinal curriculum is designed around the concept that adult learners incorporate information best by revisiting important topics over time. While emphasizing time in our family medicine clinics (FMC and Jane Pauley CHC), we also hope that each resident who comes to our program can carve out an individualized educational experience that will prepare them for whatever setting they ultimately enter upon graduation - full-spectrum family medicine, fellowship, hospital work or outpatient practice. We offer additional training and rotations for residents with more interests in obstetrics, addiction care, sports medicine and hospital medicine.

As a resident in our program, you will train in a primary care-focused community health network, an environment we feel is ideal for learning the skills needed in family medicine. We emphasize interdisciplinary teamwork and process improvement in our residents’ education. Our program carries a long track record of excellence as evidenced by our continuous accreditation by the ACGME, our graduates’ success on ABFM certification exams (100% board pass rate for many years), and the support from our health network for family medicine education for over 40 years.

We care for many underserved patients in our offices and hospital, which prompted us to start an underserved care track in 2016. We see all ages, and there are multiple spoken languages at all of our care settings. Our hospital on the east side of Indianapolis opened a new patient care tower in February 2019 to continue its history of being a strong pillar in our neighborhood. All of our clinical care sites inspire learning and education via teams, including social work, psychology, pharmacy, nursing, and care managers, just to name a few.

Although our website contains a lot of information, it cannot tell you who we really are. Our residents, faculty and staff are the heart of our training program and we’d love to have the opportunity for you to learn more about us. We have created a friendly and supportive team-based approach to patient care and learning, and we are committed to diversity and inclusion.

Do you strive to be a well-rounded, excellent family physician who can care for patients in any setting? Do you want to be part of a team that enjoys working together, values wellness, and just has fun together? Please consider joining our team! Best wishes to you as you finish your medical school career!
