Being this was our 1st meeting, Dr. Benner was very professional, knowledgeable, engaged, patient, thorough & thoughtful in his questions & examination. He provided appropriate “best next step” recommendations with timeline for follow up for assessment & evaluate of the outcome of the proposed treatment.

the wait was long this time. That is not usual.

I have no doubt that Dr. Benner is very skilled at what he does for people medically, or I wouldn't have sought him out in the first place. I was extremely upset at the lack of empathy that he showed, and quite frankly do not understand how a doctor with his outstanding reputation could seem to care so little for someone who came to him seeking his help. He actually tried to suggest to me that I could do cardio work using just my upper body to help me lose weight. I am a former athlete and coach, and I know something about exercise. To me this suggestion was very improbable at best. Then Dr. Benner suggested that I investigate Bariatric surgery options. I have done so in the past, and I personally know 7 people who have either had gastric bypass or the lap-band surgery. Everyone I know who had gastric bypass suffered from significant medical problems due to the surgery, and everyone I know who had either type of bariatric surgery regained every pound that they lost within a relatively short period of time. And all of these people had to pay for their surgery out of pocket, their insurance did not cover it. To suggest to me to investigate this as a real option was truly upsetting and indicated to me that Dr. Benner really has no idea what it means to struggle with both arthritic knees and with obesity. I have lost a pretty significant amount of weight in the past 4 or 5 years. I know that to lose 80 more pounds without being able to exercise is extremely unlikely.

Dr Benner was very thorough and explained what I should expect from my pending surgery in terms easy to understand.

I don't know Rodney all that well, but my experience with Don Shelbourne has been the best and from my perspective, Dr. Shelbourne would only have the best working with him
