With more than 30 years of clinical research administration expertise, Melissa became Community Health Network Foundation’s director of grants and compliance in September 2014. Working with grant-funded program managers, Medical and Academic Affairs leadership and Foundation staff, she is responsible for developing Community Health Network’s institutional capacity to implement funded programs in compliance with donor guidelines and regulations. In addition, she continues to play an integral part in the development and administration of the newly-instituted Office of Research Administration.
From the beginning of her career in clinical research, Melissa’s focus has been on the ethical conduct of clinical trials, patient safety and strict adherence to regulatory compliance. She believes the ultimate goal of any clinical research is to help people and chose to continue her career at Community, which provides a focused path to the whole well-being of its patients.
Prior to her appointment at Community, she worked at the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s Oral Health Research Institute serving as the director of the clinical research core. She has been responsible for the regulatory and compliance oversight of more than 375 clinical trials and has also made contributions as a co-author on 17 publications in scientific journals.
Melissa is an active member in the International Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and has volunteered to serve as president of the local chapter for the last four years. In this position, Melissa has coordinated an annual conference with a focus on excellence in research.
She is a graduate of Indiana University School of Business, earning a bachelor's of science. In addition, she earned a master’s of science from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals in the field of clinical investigation. Melissa’s husband, Ted, is the vice president of administration for Flanner and Buchanan and the Buchanan Group.
