Community Hospital South achieves accreditation as Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery

For release on December 10, 2019

Indianapolis, IN – Community Hospital South has achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). This accreditation distinguishes Community Hospital South from many other health systems by providing the highest quality of care to patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

Status as an accredited Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery means that Community Hospital South has met nationally recognized standards. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous on-site inspection process are granted accreditation.

“This accreditation is an example of our commitment to provide exceptional care to our patients,” said Anita Capps, hospital administrator and chief nurse executive at Community Hospital South. “It also demonstrates our commitment to deliver the highest level of care possible and our surgeons and staff are among the best in the hernia surgery.”

We are excited about this achievement as it represents the highest standard to provide safe, effective and evidence-based hernia care,” Stephen O’Neil, MD, general surgeon at Community Physician Network. “Our surgeons are specialty trained and have access to state-of-the-art da Vinci robotic technology to perform hernia repairs to ensure the highest quality of patient care and safety.”

Health care organizations and surgeons seeking accreditation by SRC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site inspection. This process includes physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in the accredited program. The inspection is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization or surgeon improve its care and services.

“We’re proud to recognize Community Hospital South as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery for their commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that the facility and its surgeons are among the best in the specialty and are dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
