Community Health Network completes sale of West campus

For release on May 31, 2018

Indianapolis-based buyer to continue Community mission of enhancing health and well-being

Indianapolis—Community Health Network completed the sale of the West campus, including the Community Healthplex Sports Club, two medical office buildings, and the former hospital building.

The campus is now under the ownership of the Saturday Evening Post Society, based in Indianapolis.

“After 54 years at our Waterway Boulevard location, we look forward to relocating our headquarters to the beautiful 32-acre Guion Road campus,” said Joan SerVaas, Saturday Evening Post Society publisher and CEO. “The Healthplex fitness and sports facility will allow us to sustain and expand our health and wellness programming.”

In late 2016, Community announced its plans to close Community Westview Hospital, but continued to operate Community Healthplex Sports Club while searching for a partner to take over ownership of the Healthplex and the remainder of the campus.

“Our goal was to find the right partner and we found that in Joan’s organization,” said Jason Fahrlander, Community’s chief operating officer. “Joan has lifelong connections to the neighborhoods in the vicinity of our former West campus and shares our mission of enhancing health and well-being.”

SerVaas leads the prevention and health-promoting work of the nonprofit Saturday Evening Post Society, its publications, and the programs and activities of the nonprofit Fitness Farm.  She is also a member of the Community Health Network Foundation board.

Community will continue to operate certain services in the Healthplex, including provider practices, physical therapy and rehabilitation, and the breast screening center; as well as work with the new ownership to determine the best use of other facilities on the campus, including the former hospital.
