The Indiana Heart Hospital to be renamed Community Heart and Vascular Hospital

For release on September 14, 2012

Indianapolis, IN---The Indiana Heart Hospital, part of Community Health Network, is changing its name to Community Heart and Vascular Hospital to more closely align the hospital with the “Community” identity. The transition to the new “Community Heart and Vascular Hospital” name, including signage at the facility, will begin October 1. Community Heart and Vascular Hospital is located at 8075 North Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis, on the Community Hospital North campus.

“The Indiana Heart Hospital, a long-standing anchor on the Community North campus, is changing its name, not only to bring it more closely into the Community Health Network family by name, but also to reflect the comprehensive range of state-of-the-art services and procedures available,” said Tom Malasto, president of Community Heart and Vascular Hospital and chief operating officer for Community Hospitals of Indiana. “What won’t change is the spirit that has made The Indiana Heart Hospital a pioneer in heart and vascular care and a leader in delivering outstanding experiences for patients.”

A four-time Thomson Reuters Top 100 cardiovascular hospital and VHA® National Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence recipient, The Indiana Heart Hospital opened its doors in 2003 as one of the nation’s first all-digital heart hospitals. The hospital is also integrated at Community Hospitals East, North, South and Anderson, through heart and vascular physicians of the Community Physician Network.

Community Heart and Vascular Hospital offers complete integrated cardiovascular care. Last month, a new, comprehensive cardiovascular genetic counseling center of excellence was launched, the first of its kind in Indiana. The program, designed and led by Community Physician Network clinicians specially trained in cardiovascular and medical genetics, allows patients to learn their risk of inherited heart disease and take steps to prevent or proactively manage the condition.

Recently, Community Heart and Vascular Hospital again received Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The designation means the hospital achieved a higher level of expertise in dealing with patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack.

Community Heart and Vascular Hospital employees will begin displaying the facility’s new name during the American Heart Association Heart Walk on Saturday, September 15, by wearing team t-shirts with the new name.
