Community Health Network shifting west region strategy toward ambulatory care model

For release on October 07, 2016

Indianapolis, IN – After a thorough evaluation of its care delivery models across its six central Indiana regions, Community Health Network has determined it can best serve the west side of Indianapolis through an ambulatory, or outpatient, model of care.

In line with its findings, Community will move away from its Guion Road campus on Indianapolis’ west side, wind down remaining operations at Community Hospital Westview and seek a partner to take over operations of the Community Healthplex.

“Our strategic planning process guides us to constantly and thoroughly analyze the needs of the central Indiana communities we serve, as well as carefully review health care industry trends,” said Jason Fahrlander, president of acute care services for Community Health Network.

“Community remains committed to serving Indianapolis’ west side communities,” said Fahrlander, “and we have determined we can best do so through the delivery of ambulatory services, especially in the area of primary care.”

Community Westview stopped operating as a full-service inpatient hospital in 2015. For more than a year, Westview’s offerings have been limited to an emergency room, and imaging and surgery services.

Community’s human resources team has begun working closely with Westview’s current employees and is dedicated to matching those employees with other opportunities that exist within Community Health Network. Every effort will be made to transition as many employees as possible to other Community sites of care.

Community Healthplex will continue to operate normally as the network discusses the opportunity with potential partners. There will be no change in the services received by Healthplex members during the period when Community markets the facility to potential new operators.
