INDIANAPOLIS—Community Health Network today held the grand opening of the new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Community Hospital North.
The new four-bed unit will allow Community to offer the care and expertise of a children’s hospital at the North campus.
A new collaboration allows for the PICU unit at Community North to be staffed by Riley-trained pediatric critical care physicians. Community physicians will also get special pediatric intensive care training at Riley Children’s Hospital.
The alliance also expands Community’s maternal-fetal medicine and pediatric subspecialist coverage.
"It brings care to patients who otherwise might have to go out of state," said Community’s Vice President of Women’s Services Donetta Gee-Weiler. "We can now extend the care of a children’s hospital without having to build one.’"
The new PICU unit is located within Community North’s current Pediatric Unit.
