Indianapolis, IN---Community Health Network is pleased to announce the appointment of Cindy Adams, Ph.D., R.N., ANP-BC, as chief nursing officer, effective February 26. Adams replaces the retiring Jan Bingle, who leaves the network after 27 years of service.
“We are delighted to welcome Cindy, a superbly-qualified candidate, into this role after a national search,” said Mike Blanchet, chief operations executive at Community Health Network. “Her nursing background, education and training make her well-positioned to lead the network forward.”
Adams, a certified adult nurse practitioner, received her bachelor of science in nursing from Ball State University, and her master’s and Ph.D. from Indiana University. Early in her nursing career, Adams worked at various hospitals in Indiana, before joining Community Health Network in 1988 as a staff nurse in the cath lab and critical care unit. She was promoted to various leadership positions, including team leader and director of The Indiana Heart Hospital’s Healthy Hearts Center and preventive cardiology programs; network director for nursing research; director for cardiovascular outcomes research; and most recently as chief nurse executive and vice president of nursing for Community Heart and Vascular.
“Beyond her clinical, academic, research, teaching and publication credentials, Cindy is recognized as a nurse’s nurse, a true patient advocate, whose influence has impacted the patient experience across the full continuum of care,” said Bingle. “She has been a trailblazer in innovative delivery models, a role that well positions her to lead nursing through health care reform.”
Adams has contributed to several national health care publications, textbooks and peer-reviewed journals. She is a national speaker on nursing issues. Among other honors, she earned the 2006 American Heart Association/Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association Excellence in Clinical Practice Award. Adams is very active in the community and currently is a member of the American Heart Association, where she also serves as a Fellow; American College of Cardiology; and American Organization of Nurse Executives. She resides in Shelbyville.
