Clinical collaboration brings healthcare access and affordable healthcare to consumers

Indianapolis, IN—The clinical collaboration between Community Health Network and Walgreens is rapidly expanding across Central Indiana. Seven additional Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens sites are being integrated with Community Health Network to provide additional points of access for consumers who are looking for coordinated healthcare. As consumers see an increase in out-of-pocket expenses in 2014, the relationship between Community and Walgreens becomes increasingly important. The addition of the seven sites expands the options available to patients looking for affordable and highly-coordinated care for both acute care needs and certain chronic diseases. The clinical collaboration allows for electronic medical record connection between the 14 Healthcare Clinic sites and Community’s patient records.

“The healthcare industry is changing and that change is being driven by the needs of consumers,” said Paul Wilson, M.D., senior medical director at Community Physician Network. “Consumers are looking closely at pricing and ease of access to quality healthcare. Our collaboration with Walgreens is helping us achieve our goal of being a high-value provider. We offer hundreds of quality physicians and innovative sites for inpatient and outpatient care and Walgreens is a very successful retail company with a great connection to consumers on a broad scale. Together, we can meet the healthcare needs of residents across Central Indiana.”

The seven new locations include the following Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens stores:

  • Indianapolis: 3455 Mann Road
  • Beech Grove: 1808 N. Albany
  • Mooresville: 115 Fields Road
  • New Castle: 100 N. Memorial Drive
  • Avon: 7975 E. US Hwy 36
  • Columbus: 2400 Beam Road
  • West Lafayette: 1000 Sagamore Parkway West

Each Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens location in the collaboration provides patients who need additional care access to a full continuum of Community Health Network providers and services, including primary or specialty physicians with Community Physician Network; Community MedCheck, imaging and lab services. “Healthcare systems are seeing the value of offering a retail connection for consumers as part of their delivery of care across the continuum, “said Alan London, M.D., vice president, strategic clinical partnerships, Walgreens Co. “As consumers continue to take more control of their healthcare decisions and shift toward cost and quality comparisons of providers, the collaboration between Walgreens and Community Health Network will offer another resource for finding the level of healthcare they need. For example, a consumer can be seen by a nurse practitioner at Walgreens for what appears to be a minor illness and then have the option to be referred to a Community physician specialist if more advanced treatments are needed. The process is comprehensive.”

Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens offers immediate treatment for minor illnesses and injuries and will also help Community Health Network patients manage the treatment of chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and asthma.
