Jane Pauley to headline Community Health Network Foundation Gala

For release on February 04, 2013

Indianapolis, IN---The Community Health Network Foundation will bring national talent to its first Gala on Saturday, February 9, at the Westin Indianapolis. Former Today host and author Jane Pauley, and her husband, Garry Trudeau, will join the Indiana Pacers’ George Hill, local corporate leaders and Community Health Network executives, physicians and volunteers, as they raise funds for Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for area schools, cardiovascular screenings for student athletes and resources to educate and detect heart disease among the area’s most vulnerable populations.

“As a native of the eastside of Indianapolis I grew up watching Community Hospital East giving great and compassionate care to neighbors, family and friends,” said Pauley. “I enjoy being able to return to this city to raise money for a good cause.

Pauley is a remarkable community activist for the area of Indianapolis where she grew up.  She is expanding healthcare access and services with new sites of care on the eastside of Indianapolis bearing her name, bringing the number of Jane Pauley Community Health Centers to seven. The original Jane Pauley Community Health Center has experienced 39% growth each year since opening in 2009 and nearly 6,000 students have been treated at Jane Pauley school-based centers during the past year.

A new center recently opened at 21st and Shadeland and is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).

“Jane is a tremendous partner for the Community Health Network Foundation,” said Foundation President Joyce Irwin. “Her commitment to providing health services to the under-insured is a model for the nation. Her involvement with our Gala will help us provide schools with the tools they need to protect students and help our most vulnerable neighbors receive access to heart disease screenings and education.”

The Gala, which will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the opening of Community Heart and Vascular Hospital (formerly The Indiana Heart Hospital), will have a special focus on raising funds to purchase 16 AEDs in 12 area schools, and for providing student athlete echocardiograms for youth. A video will be shown during the event that highlights the need for these life-saving devices and tests. The Gala will also feature a live and silent auction, with multiple prizes up for bid.
