Community Health Network announces joint venture with Centerre Healthcare to open comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation hospital

For release on November 28, 2011

Indianapolis, IN---Indianapolis-based Community Health Network, in partnership with Centerre Healthcare (Nashville, TN), today announced plans to build a $23 million state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital in northeast Indianapolis. The new 63,000 square foot, 60-bed rehabilitation hospital will serve the medical rehabilitation needs of the Indianapolis community by offering the highest quality programs for neurological, stroke and traumatic injury patients.

“We feel privileged to have partnered with such a well-respected organization as Community Health Network and are extremely excited about the opportunity to enhance the remarkable continuum of health care services the system has been bringing to the Indianapolis community for many years,” said Pat Foster, president and CEO of Centerre Healthcare.

Design and construction planning for the facility is underway. The new hospital will be located on or in close proximity to the Community Hospital North campus and will feature all-private rooms; a designated 28 bed brain injury wing, with specialized beds, monitored rooms, patient lifts in rooms and dedicated therapy space; a separate 16 bed stroke unit with patient lifts and specialized equipment; large therapy space; outdoor courtyards; Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training suites; a special equipped bariatric room; outdoor healing garden and walking trail; special apartment to help family and patients practice daily living tasks; and family-friendly sleeper chairs in all rooms. In addition, the facility will be equipped with the most advanced inpatient rehabilitation technologies available today.

“This new rehabilitation hospital will give brain injury patients exceptional care in the northeastern Indianapolis healthcare market, furthering our goal to increase access to healthcare for patients who need highly specialized care,” said Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network.

Community’s inpatient rehabilitation program, Hook Rehabilitation, will move its services and staff to the new rehabilitation hospital, closing the unit located within Community Hospital East. The move will allow Community East to streamline operations and focus on its core services: emergency care, cardiovascular and stroke care, surgical services and the Center for Joint Health. Community also will continue operations of its outpatient rehabilitation program at the Fort Ben pavilion location.

“Rehabilitation care of the future is changing and we need to change with it,” said Mike Blanchet, chief operations executive for Community Health Network. “This new rehabilitation hospital will allow us to build upon the clinical outcomes of Hook by providing the most advanced treatment possible for patients, in a facility dedicated to their specific needs.”

Groundbreaking on the new facility is scheduled for summer of 2012, while the hospital is expected to be operational second quarter of 2013. The rehabilitation hospital is expected to add additional healthcare jobs to the Indianapolis workforce.
