Kelly, breast cancer survivor and Community patient

Two Words To Make a Doctor's Day

“Thank you.” Those words may seem simple, but the meaning behind them can speak volumes of your heartfelt gratitude. With National Doctors’ Day on March 30, there’s never been a better time to offer your thanks to a Community physician who brought healing, help or hope to you and your family.

For Kelly, Community’s physicians were able to offer all three when, at five months pregnant, she was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer.

Her doctor immediately connected her with Community's Erin Zusan, MD, a physician who specializes in breast surgery and Anuj Agarwala, MD, a medical oncologist - both Community MD Anderson physicians. She was frightened, but the doctors were so wonderful that it made all the difference, and donors to Community helped make financial aid possible for her through the Oncology Patient Assistance Fund.

In February of 2016, she gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy, and, nearly one year later, her cancer entered remission.

“Community has saved my life and my baby’s life,” she said. “They are my angels, and I don’t have the words to thank them.”
