10 Signs of Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's is a brain disease that causes a decline in memory, thinking and reasoning skills. It is the most common form of dementia, affecting over five million people in the United States. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.

Molly Campbell, a nurse practitioner at Community's HATS Clinic, encourages people to be on the lookout for subtle warning signs.

  1. Asking repetitive questions and not realizing you have already asked.
  2. Not being able to follow a recipe when cooking is a familiar task.
  3. Forgetting bill payments when you have always been in charge of financial management.
  4. Having difficulty playing a familiar game such as cards.
  5. Confusion about the day and time.
  6. Calling a watch “something that tells time” because the word was forgotten.
  7. Misplacing items and not being able to retrace your steps, or blaming others for taking them.
  8. Personality changes and withdrawal from social activities that you used to participate in.
  9. Showing poor judgment like giving money away to telemarketers.
  10. Not realizing you are wearing the same clothes or haven’t showered for multiple days, but think you look clean.

If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these warning signs, please contact your doctor.
