4 Ways to Support Cancer Fighters

Cancer reaches far and wide. At Community Health Network, we intend to do the same. With the grand opening of Community Cancer Center North upon us, take a minute to learn how you can support cancer fighters in this new facility and across our regions of care.

1. Take Care of the Basics

Established in 2014, Community’s Oncology Patient Assistance Fund provides vouchers to cancer patients in financial need in order to help them access nutritious food, transportation to treatment and life-saving medicine. The fund, supported largely by the Foundation’s annual event named The Giving Gig, strives to cover some of the most basic needs for our patients, alleviating some of the financial stress that cancer can cause and allowing them to focus on what’s really important—fighting the strongest fight possible.

2. Support Screenings

Imagine a breast screening and prevention program that touches and benefits the underserved and high-risk population within Central Indiana. Thanks to the generosity of donors, free mammograms and breast health education and outreach programs will expand the accessibility of healthcare services for women who need them most.

3. Make Family Support Possible

As if learning you have cancer isn’t devastating enough, consider what it feels like to also learn you will not be able to have children after treatment. Community’s Fertility Preservation Assistance Fund supports a pilot program that will provide support to those of child-bearing age whose diagnosis of cancer and subsequent treatment may compromise their ability to conceive. The fund will supplement fertility planning prior to cancer treatments for those unable to pay for the services in whole by themselves—while also proving that cancer can’t stop your dreams.

4. Care for the Whole Person

Thanks to donor funding, we haven’t neglected the spirit of our cancer patients. Integrative oncology and survivorship pilot programs help to heal and nurture the soul with art therapy, yoga, tai chi, massage and more. A generous gift from Tony Alderson last year will allow these programs to be implemented across all of Community’s regions of care. With more support, these pilot programs can evolve, becoming world-class examples of exceptional care, simply delivered.

By undertaking prevention, holistic and financial assistance efforts, donors to Community Health Network Foundation come alongside members of our Central Indiana communities to inspire hope and healing.
