John is one of Community's brave cancer fighters.

$1.6 million. 1,036 donors. 1 cause.

Last month, more than 1,000 donors gathered at The Giving Gig, Community Health Network Foundation’s annual fundraising event to raise money for oncology patients in need.

Record-breaking generosity

Thanks to donors’ historic generosity, the event raised $1.6 million with proceeds benefiting the Oncology Patient Assistance Fund, which provides Community cancer patients facing financial challenges with vouchers to purchase healthy food, life-saving medication or gas to get to and from treatment.

To round out the evening, the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin offered a show-stopping performance for those in attendance.

Direct impact on cancer patients

John Williams and his wife Vicki were there that night as participants in Faces of The Giving Gig, an effort to feature some of Community’s brave cancer fighters. John has been battling lung cancer since 2013. It’s not been an easy journey, but he and Vicki are extremely grateful for Community’s exceptional care and for the financial support they received through the Oncology Patient Assistance Fund.

“We are on a fixed income, and, at times, we’ll pay our bills and there is nothing left for groceries or gas,” Vicki said. John is overwhelmed by the generosity of people who support Community and the Oncology Patient Assistance Fund. “Without their backing, we couldn’t fight this fight,” he said.
