He began serving as an Allergan Proctor in 2007, educating other bariatric surgeons in procedures and techniques associated with lap band surgery and proper follow-up care of patients.
Dr. McEwen decided in his adolescence that he would pursue medicine as his profession. While progressing through his medical education, surgery became his passion. During residency, laparoscopy had been introduced as a new and promising change in surgical technique. Dr. McEwen decided that he would strive to excel at laparoscopic technologies to aid patients with less invasive procedures, decreased post-operative pain and shorter recovery times. He began his private practice with Community Health Network in 1991.
His practice has been dedicated to non-resective gastric surgery since 2005 with his primary focus on adjustable gastric banding. Dr. McEwen follows his patients extensively the first year with monthly visits to personalize their weight loss experience. He is dedicated to a team approach toward patient care with a focus on quality satisfaction and results. He believes adjustable gastric banding provides a tool to help patients achieve their personal weight loss goals. He has performed more than 900 adjustable gastric band surgeries. Since 1991, he has performed upwards of 11,000 surgeries.
When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. McEwen enjoys spending time with his two daughters. His hobbies include aviation, coaching youth basketball, watching sports, traveling and participating in triathlons.
