Digestive Health
Diagnosis and treatment of esophageal and gastrointestinal diseases and disorders by specialists, including surgeons, gastroenterologists, oncologists and nurses skilled in endoscopy, colonoscopy and minimally-invasive surgery.
Services and Procedures
Each year, millions of Americans are diagnosed with digestive disorders, ranging from the occasional upset stomach to the more life-threatening colorectal cancer. They encompass disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as the liver, gallbladder and pancreas.
Most digestive diseases are very complex, with subtle symptoms, and the causes of many remain unknown. They may be inherited, or develop from multiple factors such as stress, fatigue, diet or smoking. Abusing alcohol imposes the greatest risk for digestive diseases.
Reaching a diagnosis requires a thorough and accurate medical history and physical examination. Some patients may need to undergo more extensive diagnostic evaluations, including lab tests, endoscopic (e.g., colonoscopy) procedures and imaging techniques. Physicians who specialize in the treatment of digestive problems are called gastroenterologists.
On the day of your digestive health procedure, follow all instructions given to you by your physician. If you have any questions concerning your procedure, please call your physician.
During this procedure, a lighted scope is passed through the body to diagnose conditions that cause swallowing disorder, reflux, nausea, chest pain and more.
Digestive health services in the hospital are offered through the Endoscopy Department. Services are available at Community Hospitals East, North and South.
The Endoscopy Department specializes in the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of digestive and pulmonary diseases. Both inpatient and outpatient procedural services are provided in the hospital and offer the safest level of care for patients who may have multiple medical conditions.
The department features private rooms that allow your family members to stay with you during admission and recovery. Gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons and pulmonologists from Community Health Network are physician specialists who perform procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary and digestive diseases.
Your physician can schedule your appointment and provide you with specific preparation instructions for your appointment. If you have questions, please call your physician office.
