Center for Physician Well-Being and Professional Development
Engineering the Exceptional Physician Experience
Community Health Network strives to provide an exceptional experience for all the lives we touch: our patients and their families, our employees and caregivers, and our physicians and providers. In order to provide the best patient experience, our physicians and providers must connect to the joy that brought them to the practice of medicine. We invest in our physicians throughout their career, supporting them as people, while developing and empowering them to improve care processes throughout our health network. Exceptional care, simply delivered occurs for our patients when we invest in those who provide them with that care.
The Center for Physician Well-Being and Professional Development has four primary goals:
- To reduce and alleviate the stress of practicing medicine
- To improve work/life balance
- To bring joy to the practice of medicine
- To develop, coach, and mentor physicians at each stage of their career
Our center will offer a variety of means to achieve these goals. Because one size does not fit all, the Center will offer well-being coaching and counseling resources, leadership development opportunities to enhance leadership skills and confidence, opportunities to connect with other physicians in small groups, career-fit options, and much more.

North Physician Lounge Grand Opening
The new physicians’ lounge is now open at Community Hospital North. Located on the first floor near the Radiology Dept, the new lounge is four times larger than the old lounge, with windows for natural lighting. Redesigned with feedback from the physicians, the lounge has a dictation room with six computer stations, a medical records room, lockers, and a quiet room with dividers and recliners where doctors can rest. There is also a kitchenette with a free style Coke machine and airport style filling station where doctors can fill their water bottles. Dr. Dee Moonsinghe oversaw the project, noting that, “It's an old-style lounge where doctors can reconnect, which we had lost over recent years because of the previous space which we had outgrown."
The Center for Physician Well-Being and Professional Development team helped organize a grand opening and open house, which several doctors and caregivers attended in late April. Check out the new lounge in the photos below.
Spring is here so let's get outside! Dr. Mary Lou Hulseman will lead day hikes to various state parks in Indiana. Hikes will be on Saturdays and Sundays. Most hikes are 2 to 6 miles. Upcoming hike dates are:

Community Health Network recognizes the critical importance of supporting the well-being of our physician partners. Well-being goes beyond absence of burnout but rather includes participation in activities achieving physical vitality, work life balance, professional fulfillment and accomplishment, and resiliency.
Our goal is to provide resources to support and promote physician well-being, manage and prevent burnout, and connect physicians to the joy of practicing medicine. Healthcare organizations which promote and develop effective physician leaders demonstrate significantly reduced levels of burnout as well as increased physician engagement which results in higher quality care, improved patient safety, at lower cost. We believe exceptional physician experiences at Community create exceptional patient experiences.
Physician Professional & Leadership Development
Physicians experience various transitions and development needs throughout their careers. At Community Health Network we strive to support our physicians from orientation and onboarding all the way through their years practicing to retirement.
Career coaching, mentoring and leadership development are the cornerstones of our professional development programs. Our one-year Physician Leadership Academy provides formal training to those who are interested in enhancing their leadership skills in an interactive classroom format.
