The VP (HR) Total Rewards & Shared Services position is located in Indianapolis, IN.

Job Duties

The VP Total Rewards & Shared Services position is a critical leadership role in human resources at Community Health Network, and has the largest area of influence with our employees. This deeply experienced, subject matter expert will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Total Rewards & HR Shared Services team -- including Compensation, Benefits, HRIS, Payroll, and HR Operations.

The successful candidate must excel in developing & implementing both short- and long-term Total Rewards strategy and have a demonstrated, successful history of innovation. The VP must be agile and flexible, have a track record of collaboration & successful vendor management, possess exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), and lead and build teams through servant leadership.

This role reports directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer.


Minimum of 10 years of senior-level experience resulting in comprehensive knowledge of HR operations, programs, technology and service delivery in a complex organization. Must have compensation and benefits leadership experience, including all aspects of employee benefits, and incentive and cash compensation and be technically sound in HRIS. Payroll management experience is preferred. Candidates should have broad human resource knowledge and expertise in strategic, collaborative and consultative services to organizational leadership, coupled with the technical expertise in key areas of benefit plan design, executive compensation and corporate executive incentive plans.


Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Human Resources, Business, Finance or a related field) required. Master’s degree preferred.


CEBS, CCP, CBP, and SPHR preferred.


Must have demonstrated excellence in critical thinking and analytics, communication, financial and business acumen, relationship-building, and team leadership. Must be skilled in:
  • Benefits design and knowledge to create innovative, future delivery models that address improved employee health outcomes.
  • Management of compensation strategy and processes that address internal equity and external competitiveness and include base salary, incentive compensation, and non-monetary compensation strategies.
  • Using analytics to identify trends, isolate issues and opportunities and leverage data to drive outcomes.
  • Harnessing the energy and commitment of executive leadership and critical stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives toward necessary outcomes.
  • Summarizing and presenting departmental performance data at the executive level. Parse information and make decisions regarding issue escalation. Effectively translate and communicate the Network’s strategy throughout the Human Resource organization.
