The VP, Chief Nurse Executive for Ambulatory Care Services position (VP CNE) is located in Indianapolis, IN.

Job Duties

The VP CNE for Ambulatory Care Services plans, organizes, and directs all nursing functions and activities (internal and external) within the realm of responsibility; establishes goals, objectives, and standards of performance; develops operating policies and procedures; and ensures consistent implementation of policies, standards and regulations to staff, patients, and public.

Ambulatory Care Services is defined as services that are provided in nearly all outpatient and retail settings, including all physician practices, behavioral health clinics, post-acute/home health services, employer health clinics, urgent care centers, and cancer centers.

This leader provides executive operational and nursing leadership for Ambulatory Care Services, including the development and execution of plans emphasizing profitable growth, market share expansion, and outstanding patient and customer experiences. Further, the VP CNE provides leadership and management to a highly qualified leadership team that develops goals and objectives for nursing, quality improvement, compliance, risk management and special projects and analyzes and evaluates those areas to continuously improve organizational outcomes.


Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive healthcare management and nursing leadership experience required. Ambulatory nursing experience preferred.


Master’s degree in Health, Nursing or Business Administration required. If advanced degree is non-nursing, undergraduate degree must be Bachelor of Science in Nursing.


Current Indiana Registered Nurse License.

  • Ability to demonstrate and provide examples of leadership in an integrated interdisciplinary continuum of care, execution of evidenced-based redesign and innovation; clinical guidelines / standards evaluation and monitoring, application of systems thinking, ethical decision making.
  • Financial acumen.
  • Ability to effectively and credibly interact with, and influence, external and internal constituencies with sensitivities for relationship and political dynamics.
  • Ability to develop a high performing management team, with teamwork as its hallmark.
  • Demonstrated drive to meet patients’, employees’, physicians’, and visitors’ needs.
  • Ability to learn a marketplace quickly, and determine critical success factors for growth.
  • Working knowledge of ambulatory healthcare operations, managed care, and physician relations.
  • Must be able to communicate with others verbally and in written format, and travel to other facilities on/off campus.
