Job Location
The Triage Specialist position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Job Duties

  • The Triage Specialist assists in the coordination and care of patients seeking behavioral health services.
  • Essential function is to determine the nature and severity of the mental health problem and determine which level of care would best meet the needs of the patient and connect/refer them accordingly.
Experience
  • Two years of experience with mentally ill or chemically dependent populations
  • Knowledge of local resources and Behavioral Care Services
  • Experience in crisis triage and risk assessment preferred
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or social work.

Skills
  • Problem solving abilities/good judgment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Auditory skills to hear reporting by clients of their problems
  • Ability to verbally de-escalate violent /disruptive behavior
  • Diplomacy, tact, patience needed in dealing with those in accurate distress or suffering from serious mental illness
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral agencies
  • Computer skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area
