Job Location
The Respiratory Therapist NICU position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Job Duties
  • Provides treatment, care, and evaluation for neonatal patients with respiratory in insufficiencies
  • Intubation
  • Attends all high risk deliveries as part of neonatal resuscitation team
  • Delivers and assesses responses to ordered therapy per plan of care including routine and intensive therapy and diagnostic procedures
  • Utilizes various types of oxygen delivery devices, low flow and high flow
  • Administers aerosolized medications
  • Invasive (nIMV) and non-invasive conventional ventilation
  • Ventilation modalities include high frequency oscillatory and jet ventilation
  • Performs a variety of duties related to setting up, operating, cleaning, and storing respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Responds to emergency team calls
  • Educates patients and family members and provides information about community support groups and other available programs
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate care
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
  • Operate point of care blood gas analysis.


Previous hospital level 3 NICU respiratory care experience preferred, including high frequency ventilation.

Associate's degree from an accredited respiratory care program.

Indiana Respiratory Therapy license, Must be registered by the NBRC or eligible

  • Understanding of Cardiopulmonary principles, theories, and processes consistent with that required for state licensing and national registry 
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and visitors is required 
  • Pharmacological understanding of respiratory medicine dosages for all age groups 
  • Understanding of various respiratory therapy treatment modalities for all age groups 
  • Understanding of anatomical and physiological differences in neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations from a cardiopulmonary perspective
