Job Location

The Patient Financial Underwriter position is based in the Central Billing Office apart of the Castleton Business Park in Indianapolis, Indiana


Job Duties

• The Patient Financial Underwriter position is designed to review and ensure all billing and collection efforts have been completed and applied appropriately prior to determining eligibility for our financial assistance program
• Review inquiries, submissions and applications for the financial assistance program ensure application of processes and requests are supported in accordance to the policy and processes
• Provide feedback and recommendations to leadership based upon application and review of our financial assistance program in accordance with federal regulations
• Reviews all accounts to determine eligibility for any additional aid programs
• This position proactively and positively focuses on interpersonal skills, data collection/analysis, attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to deliver positive and non-positive results with compassion and options, and resolve inquiries with internal/external customers efficiently
• Ensures a customer focused and quality conscious work climate by maintaining a proficient understanding of third-party payer regulations, network guidelines, and federal regulations.
• Ensures department’s continuous excellence in Customer Focus, Quality, and Financial Clearance Standards


Experience

• Strong background in Customer Service required
• Three years of experience in a healthcare office environment preferred
• Experience in hospital or physician office and experience in Patient Accounts required
• Strong working knowledge of billing requirements, reimbursement processes, and general knowledge of patient accounting also required
• Four to five years of call center experience strongly preferred
• Healthcare, insurance, medical billing and/or reimbursement experience required
• Banking, financial, underwriting, social services, leadership, education, and/or mentor experience preferred


Education


• High school diploma or GED equivalent required

• Exceptional verbal written and verbal communication skills (bilingual preferred)

• Ability to empathize and interact professionally with all customers
• Advanced working knowledge of MS Office, including but not limited to Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
• Advanced working knowledge of personal computers, standard office equipment, and advanced 10-key skills
• Utilize resources, research, troubleshoots, and de-escalates by comprehending and utilizing multiple systems to present options to achieve resolution
• Document and correspond utilizing multiple forms of communication
• Advanced math aptitude and critical thinking skills
• Exceptional reading skills and detailed orientated
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced and detailed oriented environment responding to assigned work activities in appropriate priority and set timeframes
• Operates with high integrity, trustworthy, and maintains confidentiality
• Ability to meet and adhere to policies, procedures, and instructions provided
• Ability to follow and complete detailed directions
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
• Strong interpersonal skills.
