The Patient Access Representative position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana

Job Duties

• The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for visitors who enter the Wound Center Clinic and is responsible for all aspects of customer services in a manner that ensures a customer focused, quality conscious work climate
• Greet patients and perform check-in/check-out and registration procedures for patients in a positive, professional manner
• Other primary functions include, focusing on interpersonal skills, data collection, and the ability to assess situations and to assist the team in developing solutions to achieve excellence in customer service while ensuring the financial viability of the hospital
• Collects and verifies patient and insurance demographics, secures pre-certifications and/or pre-notifications for patient services, collects of co-pay and deposits prior to services and provides financial assistance to patient
• Responsible for recognizing the patients' ability to pay or need of assistance, as well as, assisting patients in their efforts to obtain services within Community Health Network in a timely manner
• Preforms routine clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling, filing, copying and typing
• Works with hospital billing department to provide requested documentation 
• Verifies insurance coverage and communicates with insurance companies, physician offices and patients
• Maintains tracking logs and data driven spreadsheets
• Maintains office equipment and maintaining office supplies
• Performs data entry into various systems
• Reconciles the systems and ensures timely completion of data entry and reconciliation.
• Prepares patient charts and maintains electronic medical records (EMR)
• Listens to patient concerns and needs and directs patients to a satisfactory outcome


• Two years of experience in a healthcare office setting preferred
• Front office experience in a healthcare facility strongly preferred
• General working knowledge of healthcare office billing requirements with strong customer service skills required


High school diploma or GED equivalent
Associate’s Degree preferred


• Ability to multi-task in a face paced high volume clinic 
• Ability to work with all types of patients
• Excellent verbal and written communication including professional one-on-one interactions and phone skills
• Bilingual a plus
• Attention to detail required
• Strong time management skills required
• Follow instructions without close supervision 
• Record information completely and accurately 
• Ability to multi-task, have attention to detail, strong organization skills, and a strong team player
• Excellent critical thinking skills
• Proficient in data entry with multiple software application usage
• Resourceful out-of-the box thinker, ensuring timely resolution of patient needs
• Maintains professional demeanor in every level of communications whether inter-department, customer, peer, or leadership


Must pass pre-hire testing: 
• Math (85%)
• Customer Service Testing (85%)
• Data Entry Alpha/Numeric (5500kph)
