The Interpreter - Spanish will provide professional interpretation services both linguistically and culturally for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, family members, CHN clinicians/staff, and visitors in medical situations. The Interpreter is responsible for working with multiple clinicians and clinical specialties employing the appropriate mode of interpreting (consecutive, simultaneous) and providing sight interpretation when necessary, as well as navigating through multiple CHN facilities.
2-3 years’ previous experience working in a healthcare environment.
A College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; successful completion of a 40-60-hour interpreter training program; oral language proficiency assessment (interpreters) and written proficiency assessment (translators). Oral and written language proficiency will be tested during the interview process.
LicenseProfessional certification/licensure (IMIA or CCHI) must be acquired within 12 months of hire, and maintained through continuing education for duration of employment with the Network.
- Knowledge of Hispanic/Latino communities
- Interpreting in Spanish and excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of diverse medical terminology in English and target language
- Requires continuing education for acquisition of professional certification and maintenance of certification
