Job Location

The HIM Certified Coder position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana


Job Duties


The HIM Certified Coder codes and abstracts inpatient or outpatient hospital, ambulatory surgery centers, or professional services, using software and coding books, as appropriate for current work assignment


Experience 

Minimum of two years of experience as a Coder preferred


Education 


High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Successful completion of an accredited coding program, including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology preferred


License 

Certified Coding Specialist certification through AHIMA must be obtained within twelve months of hire


Skills

• Expertise in oral and written communication skills to clarify and discuss coding issues with physicians and/or peers
• Keyboarding/typing skills
• Able to multi task and prioritize tasks
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Attention for detail and strong organizational skills
• Medical terminology and coding
• Ability to use web based and computer applications and work with peers in team situation
• Takes initiative in performing additional tasks
