About Community Spine Center

Community Spine Center front doorCommunity Spine Center offers the full range of “aggressive conservative care,” including physician triage, physical therapy, imaging and access to specialty consultations. As medical director for the center, Brian S. Foley, M.D., guides the collaborative team of spine specialists providing cutting-edge, seamless patient and physician experiences.

Community Spine Center enhances spine care at Community Health Network for both physicians and patients:

  • On-site physical therapy and imaging are available for expedited care.
  • The center uses an electronic medical record (EMR) system to quickly report back to the referring physician. Dr. Foley provides full-time medical directorship and is available for consultation by phone or pager during the week.
  • Entrance of Community Spine Center OfficeThe center's care navigator facilitates the flow of information between the health care providers and the patient and family; this person also assists the patient in moving forward through the continuum of care toward a more active life.
  • The center is conveniently located on the first floor of the professional building near the front entrance to Community Hospital North.

Recognition for superior care

Back Pain Recognition Program award logoThe National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) new Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP) recognizes physicians and chiropractors who deliver superior care to millions of Americans who suffer from low back pain.

Both of the physicians at Community Spine Center, Brian Foley, M.D., and Jason Sorg, M.D., are the only physicians in Indianapolis recognized in the BPRP at this time.

"This is very exciting," says Dr. Foley. "It shows we have met a very high standard of quality. It speaks to the tremendous team we have built and all of the wonderful resources in the Community Health Network such as IT/EMR."

According to the NCQA’s Web site, "BPRP identifies physicians who provide high-value, patient-centered care for patients with back pain. The program is designed with an understanding that patients may seek the care of various types of practitioners—primary care, spine specialists, chiropractors—for treatment of an episode of back pain.

Accordingly, the measures reflect that physicians should provide high-quality care from the outset of patient contact and understand and consider previous treatment history to help avoid inappropriate treatment."

The BPRP uses 13 clinical measures and three structural standards as requirements to address the broad spectrum of low back pain and focus on underuse, misuse and overuse of treatment modalities. NCQA developed BPRP requirements from widely accepted medical evidence, with significant input from physician specialists and health plan and employer representatives.

Eligible physicians must abstract data from the charts of 35 low back pain patients and submit this information to NCQA for review along with documentation of patient education and evaluation of patient experience.
