Local artwork sets the tone for a healing environment
The expanded Community Hospital South features a collection of 37 pieces of art by 26 Indiana artists. The artwork, displayed throughout common areas of the hospital, complements the architectural design of the project and aims to create a healing environment for patients and visitors.
Valued at more than $100,000, the art collection is funded entirely by donations made to Community Health Network Foundation’s Next Evolution of Community Hospital South Capital Campaign. (More than $1 million was raised to support the expansion project.) The assortment includes 30 original and seven commissioned works created specifically for the hospital expansion project. Most items are contemporary and several include landscape art presented in modern, impressionistic and traditional styles. Similar art initiatives have brightened the environments at Community Hospitals East and North.
To ensure that the artwork displayed in the hospital contributes to the goal of providing an overall healing environment, Community South’s clinical staff served on a committee that had input on colors and art selection criteria. Other representatives serving on the committee included staff from Community Health Network Foundation, Arts Council of Indianapolis and RTKL, an architectural firm. Hospital team members were able to view the artwork from a patient’s perspective.
