Grief support groups are available in several schools within the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township. Groups provide individualized support as needed to children and adolescents that have experienced the death of a loved one. Support is also offered to teachers and administrators regarding ways to best support this delicate population.
Grief education is available in the classroom setting focused on typical symptoms of grief, how to support friends that are grieving and what to expect if facing the death of one of their own loved ones. The program strives to be proactive in providing this information in order to prevent the need for long-term support services or mental health treatment.
Other services offered include class book readings focused on grief and bereavement, individualized consultation with staff regarding a particular student or referrals to services outside of Youth Bereavement as needed.
