Community Westview Hospital’s physical therapy and sports medicine services provide patient-centered care that includes physical, occupational and speech-language pathology therapies. The multidisciplinary staff is committed to individualized patient care with one-on-one treatment by licensed and certified personnel.
In addition to the traditional rehabilitation therapies our professional clinicians are skilled and educated in:
- Aquatic physical therapy (patients have access to the largest therapeutic pool in Indianapolis)
- Balance/Vestibular therapies
- Hand therapy
- Lymphedema management
- Manual therapy: Joint mobilization, McKenzie Method, Graston Technique®, muscle energy techniques
- Outpatient wound care
- Pilates approach to rehabilitation
- Women’s health (pelvic pain, postpartum, osteoporosis, incontinence) therapies
- Neurological approach based therapy
- Swallowing therapy
- Audiology therapy
- Voice disorder therapy
This treatment uniquely emphasizes education and active patient involvement to decrease pain quickly, and to restore function and independence. It also minimizes the number of visits to the clinic. If a problem is more complex, self-treatment may not be possible right away. However, a certified McKenzie clinician will provide additional advance hands-on techniques until the patient can successfully manage the prescribed skills on his or her own. Ultimately, most patients can successfully treat themselves when provided the necessary knowledge and tools. An individualized self-treatment program tailored to the lifestyle of the patient puts the patient in control safely and effectively.
Patients gain an experiential education learning to self-treat the current problem. Learning these skills and behaviors will minimize the risk of recurrence and allows patients to rapidly manage themselves when symptoms occur.
This technique incorporates a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.
Hospital treatment services for patients who qualify for admission are covered by Medicare and most major health companies.
Patient referral or information
To receive physical therapy and sports medicine services, a patient must first have a referral from a physician, written within the last 30 days.
Patients are then scheduled for an initial visit with a physical therapist, where all aspects of the patient’s injuries are evaluated. At the end of the first visit, the physical therapist will initiate a treatment and home exercise program specific to the patient’s injury/surgery.
It is important for the patient to remember to bring their physician referral/prescription to the first initial physical therapy visit.
Any necessary follow-up visit will be scheduled after the initial first therapy evaluation.
Although out front desk will call to verify insurance benefits, it is each patient’s responsibility to know their specific insurance plan and allowed benefits to receive therapy services.
