Who: Anyone recovering from a stroke who would like to share experiences or difficulties is welcome.
When: Third Tuesday of each month from 2 to 3 p.m.
Where: Varied locations at CRH. Please see event flyer or check in at front desk to be escorted.
RSVP: For more information, please call Beth Edwards at 317-585-5400.
We offer those dealing with stroke a library of resources. Please let us know if you have suggestions. Stroke resources >>
Who is involved?
The group is open to anyone recovering from stroke, as well as their family members. The medical expertise of the Community Rehab Hospital staff is available for planning and input when requested.
What are the goals of the group?
The stroke support group is organized to:
- Provide an environment for fun and friendship
- Encourage involvement through community projects
- Promote discussion among persons with similar problems
- Increase awareness about stroke
What kinds of programs are presented?
Programs—both educational and informational—are chosen by the group members with input from the staff. Though topics are tailored to stroke recovery they aren't limited only to stroke recovery issues. In addition to medically related topics, programs include a variety of subjects, such as hobbies, travel and leisure activities. Guest speakers are also invited periodically.

Peer Visitor program
Community Rehabilitation Hospital has an outreach program to offer support and encouragement to stroke survivors and family caregivers. The Stroke Connection Peer Visitor program, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is designed to match recovering stroke survivors and caregivers with persons or families who have been recently affected by stroke.
Peer visitors are specially chosen. They participate in training with a senior stroke peer visitor, during which they learn how to provide visitor support services. Through weekly personal visits, peer visitors meet with stroke survivors and family caregivers to provide education, wellness information, advice and support during the difficult periods of stroke recovery.
For more information about the program, please contact Mary Myers at email@example.com.
