Rapid drug testing - frequently asked questions
What is rapid drug testing?
Rapid testing is the next generation of urine substance abuse testing. The rapid testing solution combines clinic-based substance abuse testing technology with the support and services of an S.A.M.H.S.A.-certified laboratory. The combination provides fast, efficient solutions to pre-employment and employee screening with convenient access to other occupational health clinic services.
Where is testing available?
Rapid drug testing is available at any of Community’s MedCheck Occupational Health Centers located in or near Indianapolis, Indiana. Coverage is available 24 hours a day, and mobile services can be arranged for large groups.
Is rapid drug testing legal?
Yes. Although rapid drug testing is not yet accepted by the Department of Transportation (DOT), it continues to increase in popularity for non-regulated testing. Community’s program employs a legally defensible chain of custody protocols, initial testing performed by qualified medical professionals, GC/MS confirmation or presumed positive results and review by a certified medical review officer.
How long does it take to get results?
The rapid drug test process takes approximately 15 minutes. Community’s staff will communicate results of negative tests immediately to a company representative as set up in your company profile. Specimens that need additional testing require an additional 48 to 72 hours.
Is rapid testing as accurate as laboratory testing?
Yes. Community’s rapid drug test uses FDA-approved chemical assays that are similar to those used in a laboratory environment. In several validation studies, the rapid test has been documented to have a zero false negative rate. In addition, all tests that are screened non-negative will be confirmed by GC/MS at an S.A.M.H.S.A.-certified laboratory and reviewed by a certified medical review officer.
Which drug categories are included in the rapid test?
The rapid test screens for the same five categories as called for by the Department of Transportation. The urine is screened for amphetamines, cannabinoids (marijuana), cocaine metabolite, opiates and phencyclidine (PCP).
How does my company begin using the rapid test?
Your account manager will answer your questions and develop a company profile that will provide the clinic staff with your preferences and specific instructions.
