Insurance Marketplace

We're ready to help you navigate the Indiana Health Insurance Marketplace

The Health Insurance Marketplace will offer different types of health plans to meet a variety of needs and budgets. You'll get a clear picture of what premiums you'd pay and what benefits and protections you'd get before you enroll. Compare plans based on what's important to you, and choose the combination of price and coverage that fits your needs and budget.

If you have any questions about this big change, we're here to help! We can also keep you updated about any new marketplace information or changes that could affect you and your family.

The basics

Eligible Hoosiers can use Indiana's Health Insurance Marketplace to:

  • Compare health insurance options.
  • Select a plan that meets their individual budgets and needs.
  • Enroll in coverage.

Additionally, the Marketplace will:

  • Provide information on programs to help Hoosiers pay for coverage.
  • Help Hoosiers find out if they're eligible for other public health coverage programs like Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Enrolling in coverage

You can now apply and enroll in health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Health coverage starts as early as January 1, 2014. Open enrollment ends on March 31, 2014.

Here are answers to the questions we're hearing most often:

Thousands of Hoosiers can use Indiana's new Health Insurance Marketplace to learn about their health insurance options, compare plans, and enroll in health coverage for themselves or their families. Additionally, Marketplaces will provide Hoosiers with information on programs available to help lower their monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs, and help them determine if they're eligible for public health coverage programs like Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Most Hoosiers are eligible to purchase private health coverage through Indiana's Health Insurance Marketplace as long as they:

  • Live in the United States
  • Are a U.S. citizen or national (or are lawfully present)
  • Are not currently incarcerated

No. If you are eligible for employer-sponsored health coverage, you will not be affected.

Whether you qualify for the Marketplace will depend on what kind of coverage your employer offers. If your job-based coverage is considered "affordable" and meets minimum value, you won't be able to get lower costs on premiums or out-of-pocket costs in the Marketplace. This is true no matter what your income and family size are.

Employer coverage is considered affordable if the employee's share of the annual premium for self-only coverage is no greater than 9.5% of annual household income.

Monthly premium costs for insurance purchased through the Marketplace are not yet available. Check back often for updates, or sign up for email updates.

Based on your income and family size, you may qualify for financial assistance.

Individuals making up to $45,960 or a family of four making up to $94,200 may qualify for help paying their monthly premiums when they purchase health insurance through the Marketplace.

Additionally, individuals making up to $28,725 or a family of four making up to $58,875 may qualify for additional assistance to help lower the amount they pay for out-of-pocket costs like deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments.
