Heart screenings - Know Your Numbers
Knowing your heart health numbers will help you and your doctor determine your risks for heart disease. A free ”Know Your Numbers” screening includes: Total lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride and TC/HDL ratio), glucose and blood pressure.
Screenings are available from 10 a.m. to noon. Please arrive by 11:30 a.m. For best total profile results, we recommend fasting for 10 hours with nothing but water. Please be sure to take all necessary medication and drink 8-16 ounces of water prior to the screening. Your screening results will be ready in about 15 minutes. For more information call 765-453-8593.
- Next screening: December 12, 2014
For appropriate candidates, interventional cardiology procedures are available as a less-invasive alternative to traditional open heart surgery. Cardiac procedures include coronary angiography (heart cath), right heart catheterization, coronary intervention with angioplasty and/or stent placement, intra-vascular ultrasound, temporary and permanent pacemaker insertion, and intra-aortic balloon pump insertion.
Advances have been made in the treatment of arrhythmia that allow normal heart rhythm to be restored, improving a patient's quality of life. An electrophysiology study (EPS) is one of the most accurate and reliable methods of evaluating heart rhythms. The procedure is performed by our electrophysiologist who will reproduce your arrhythmia in a controlled environment and, through careful examination, determine its type and location in your heart. Most importantly, the EPS will help your physician determine the most effective treatment of your particular arrhythmia.
This type of cardiac testing is ideal for patients who suffer from palpitations, fluttering in the chest, or loss of consciousness due to heart arrhythmia. These episodes may seem like a panic attack to the person experiencing them. Depending on the diagnosis, treatments vary. Among them are cardiac ablation, pacemaker implantation and the insertion of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
Nuclear cardiology imaging
Nuclear cardiology testing is a complex imaging technique that can be used to find coronary artery disease and detect heart attacks. Nuclear imaging tests can show if part of the heart has been damaged, measure the heart's pumping action and study the heart's ability to expand or contract. Nuclear scans are often done in conjunction with cardiac stress testing. Learn more >>
