It is never too late to quit smoking! Even after ten to 50 years of smoking, the body repairs much of the damage caused by smoking. Remember, regardless of smoking duration, quitting improves health and life… it will add years to your life and life to your years!
The Oncology Center located at our main campus hospital provides a comprehensive cancer program for Community Howard Regional Health. Dr. Annette Moore, Dr. John Salter, Dr. Tracy Price and a team of certified nurses and support staff care for our patients using a multi-disciplinary approach.
Oncology services focus on:
- Prevention and detection
- Medical oncology
- Radiation oncology
- Inpatient and outpatient treatments
- Onsite laboratory and imaging services
- Community education and outreach
- Participation in clinical trials
- Patient education
- Genetic consultative services
All patients have a documented cancer diagnosis or are seen in order to diagnose a suspicion of cancer. Our American College of Surgeons-approved program provides radiation therapy and chemotherapy services to outpatients and inpatients. We also treat blood disorders and provide consultative services to women who are at risk for developing breast cancer.
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), brings improved outcomes to our patients. This state-of-the-art radiation therapy delivery system reduces the amount of radiation to healthy tissue and can increase the rate of tumor control while significantly reducing adverse side effects.
Patients are treated using a multidisciplinary approach including physicians, nurses, a nurse practitioner, radiation therapists, chaplains, social workers and dietitians.
